There’s lots of choices if you’re looking Sydney book stores, but which is top?
Some are experts in second hand books, others for Australian books. It could be you can think of a good Sydney university bookshop for cheap textbooks.
When you shop for books in Sydney, which shop do you pay a visit to?

Better Read Than Dead in King St, Newtown. Berkelouw’s Newtown store has a nice feel, but it can’t beat Better Read for range, layout and the friendliness of the staff.
Ariel books on Oxford street, great for obscure books and arty stuff.
There’s only a couple left in the city… anyway, my vote is for Kinokuniya too.
Kinokuniya. Organised, helpful staff & well laid out. Only cramped area is the stationery section.
Ampersand at Paddington for secondhand; Berkelouws or Ariel at Paddington for new.
Thanks for your support of Elizabeth’s Newtown and Elizabeth’s Pitt Street, guys!
We do our best :)
Lizzie (and NO we are not a franchised chain… Just our family bookshops.)
Another vote for: Kinokuniya in The Galeries Victoria. Can spend hours there.
Berkelouw in Newtown and also on Oxford St.
Basement Books at Central
Berkelouw on Oxford St
Basement Books at Central
Basement Books at Central is definitely the BEST bookshop… Books, arts and crafts.. And agree with all the above comments about Basement Books, I never go to any other bookshop!!! Love ‘em!!!!
Definitely gotta agree with Basement Books at Central Station, once you’ve discovered them you’ll never go to another bookshop again!
Kinokuniya in TGV, and before it got taken away, Borders at Parramata. And some other one in the city.
Jura Books, Parramatta Road, Petersham
Basement Books underground, at the railway square. Cheapest books and art stuff ever!!!
Kinokuniya hands down! Beautiful and neat display. Love the art books, magazines and stationery.
Elizabeth’s bookshops. Great books, cheap
Gleebooks in glebe for sure
Kinokuniya in TGV, or the little one near Cronulla station. There’s a great one on George Street in The Rocks too!
The Rationalist Association of N.S.W. Incorporated 58 Regent St Chippendale, Good second hand books!
Kinokunya!!
Goulds Books in Newtown! – but im going to check out Berkelouw thanks Matt.
Kinokuniya FTW.
I’ll agree with Kinokuniya for new books, my choice in second hand would be Elizabeth’s – Pitt St or King St Newtown, either is good.
Berkelouw Books – Newtown. Tucked away from the King St madness in an old warehouse space, this branch holds a decent second hand collection and a great little cafe upstairs where you can look over the laneway while perusing your purchases.
Kinokuniya in The Galeries Victoria. It’s big, organized and convenient.
