Despite the rise of iTunes and Spotify, many of us still prefer to buy our music in physical form. So where do you rate as the best record shops in Sydney?
Let’s be honest – the record shop industry has seen better days. The domination of HMV and Sanity in your local shopping centre and the Pitt Street Mall is long gone, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. This has perhaps left us with only the best record shops in Sydney still standing – the stores which provide a personal touch and have an independent spirit.
There’s still quite a few good places to buy CDs and vinyl if you’re the kind of person who prefers reading through the liner notes instead of downloading tracks. Which record shops in Sydney do you rate as having the best range, service and advice?
Let us know who gets your vote as the best Sydney record shop in the comments, for all the other vinyl and CD lovers in this city.

Haha. Pigeon ground, that is. My ramble didn’t mention who I was yakking on about. Haha…
Awesome shop. The records are great, but so is All the other stuff.
Pigeon ground is the best vinyl shop in Sydney. Fair prices on lots of great and rare records. Every time I go there, there is new stuff out. I actually have to stop myself from going there, because they consistently blow my budget. As unfortunate as it is, eating (unfortunately) is more important than buying records. I wish I had more money to spend there.
Pigeon Ground in Camperdown, Red-Eye Records in the City and Egg Records in Newtown.
Here’s three of my favourites, all in the Inner West:
Pigeon Ground
102 Salisbury Road, Camperdown
Egg records
3 Wilson Street, Newtown
The Vintage Record
31a Parramatta Road, Annandale
Revolve in Erskinville still has plenty of that black plastic stuff
What’s a record shop? ;)
